Whole pasture chicken
$16/kgA full bird, bone-in, grown slow enough to actually taste like something.
Ridge & Meadow sits on forty acres off a quiet dirt road in the Southern Tablelands. Our birds move across open pasture every day, fed on grain we grow ourselves. No sheds, no shortcuts, just slower growth and better flavour.

Forty acres, one flock at a time, and a simple bet: chicken tastes better when it's allowed to actually be a chicken.

My grandfather kept chickens here for eggs and Sunday dinner, nothing more. When I took over the block, the sheds were empty and the fences were gone, but the paddocks still remembered what they were for.
We rebuilt slowly. Mobile shelters instead of fixed sheds, smaller flocks instead of one big one. Every bird here still walks the same stretch of road my grandfather used to drive down with eggs in the back seat.
Some things changed. The feed is tested now, the processing room is licensed, the orders come in online instead of by phone. But the pace of raising a chicken hasn't moved much at all.
A chicken that's had a life tastes different, you can't fake that.

Everything here comes off our own pasture, in small weekly batches.

A full bird, bone-in, grown slow enough to actually taste like something.

The cuts our regulars ask for first, packed skin-on for roasting.

Laid by hens that free-range the same paddocks as the meat birds.

One whole bird, a dozen eggs and a pack of thighs, our most-ordered box.

A spatchcocked bird seasoned and ready to go straight on the fire.
I drive forty minutes out for this chicken and I'd drive further, the difference is that obvious once you've had it.Regular customer, Southern Tablelands
