Ridge & Meadow Raised slow, sold direct

Chicken raised the way it used to be

Ridge & Meadow sits on forty acres off a quiet dirt road in the Southern Tablelands. Our birds move across open pasture every day, fed on grain we grow ourselves. No sheds, no shortcuts, just slower growth and better flavour.

Forty acres, one flock at a time, and a simple bet: chicken tastes better when it's allowed to actually be a chicken.

Started on my grandfather's block

My grandfather kept chickens here for eggs and Sunday dinner, nothing more. When I took over the block, the sheds were empty and the fences were gone, but the paddocks still remembered what they were for.

We rebuilt slowly. Mobile shelters instead of fixed sheds, smaller flocks instead of one big one. Every bird here still walks the same stretch of road my grandfather used to drive down with eggs in the back seat.

Some things changed. The feed is tested now, the processing room is licensed, the orders come in online instead of by phone. But the pace of raising a chicken hasn't moved much at all.

A chicken that's had a life tastes different, you can't fake that.

I drive forty minutes out for this chicken and I'd drive further, the difference is that obvious once you've had it.

Good to know

Do I need to order before I come out?

Yes, we process to order so stock is limited on the day. Get your order in by Thursday for weekend pickup.

Where exactly is the farm gate?

We're on a signposted dirt turn-off, details and a map link are sent with your order confirmation.

Is the meat frozen or fresh?

Fresh, always. Birds are dressed the morning of pickup and kept chilled, not frozen, unless you ask us to freeze for travel.

Can I visit without ordering, just to see the farm?

Yes, we welcome drop-in visits during pickup hours, though the shop itself is order-only.

What makes your chicken different from supermarket chicken?

Slower growth, real pasture time and small batch numbers, the birds simply live longer and move more before they reach you.
